Sister Lorenzo Thyken: Born: May 4th, 1898 DOD: May 12, 1998 Purpose The purpose of this award is to identify and honor the person who has been most inspirational to a graduating senior during the student's education in the Notre Dame School System. This award is given in memory of Sister Mary Lorenzo Thyken who served as principal of Saint Mary High School from 1942-1946. Sister Lorenzo touched the lives of numerous students by her inspirational counseling and personal direction, which was always delivered in a spiritual context. This award is presented to a past or present staff member of Notre Dame Schools selected from those nominated by graduating seniors as following most closely the ideals demonstrated by Sister Lorenzo. This award was developed and is currently supported by The Rod and Jeanne Kinskey Family Foundation. In January of each school year seniors write letters to the selection committee, made up of the presidents of the NDHS Board of Education and the NDES Board of Education and one other member (selected by the Presidents from each of these boards). The committee studies the nominations and selects the nominee they feel most closely meets the criteria for the award.
